Well the Poke’mon phenomenon has risen up from the ashes of its former self, from an old school toy and cartoon series to its reincarnation is in the form of an interactive game using today’s super computer technology.

As it reads Wikipedia-

Pokémon Go (stylized as Pokémon GO) is a free-to-play, location-based augmented reality game developed by Niantic for iOS and Android devices. It was initially released in selected countries in July 2016. In the game, players use a mobile device's GPS capability to locate, capture, battle, and train virtual creatures, called Pokémon, who appear on the screen as if they were in the same real-world location as the player.

So there we have the basics of the creators of this craze, I have to applaud their intention of getting people off their backsides and outside to participate in what can easily described as a modern day scavenger hunt - Hmmmm remember them?, they were the challenges mum and dad used to set us when we were getting under their feet while on holidays. If you don’t remember this was how it went. They’d write down a massive list of things to collect, sometimes there’d be a treat hidden amongst the crap to keep us on task we then would bring them back to the folks up to 3 hours later in some cases. To determine a winner the items had particular values that would entail points to be allocated and the most points win. (This however would then cause a fight at my place between my brothers and ,I mum would normally head straight into the kitchen to find a new wooden spoon to dissuade us from the inevitable war that was beginning to erupt which would morph into another physical challenge and game of cunning I called.... hide and not get beaten up?)

Isn’t it interesting once again what’s old is now new again, I must admit that I resorted to the scavenger hunt while away at a beautiful place on the southern NSW coast  called Salt Water Creek, where there’s no power, and back then still had the long drop bathroom facilities, but what a spot. Kangaroos hanging around the camp goanna’s strolling beneath the director’s chairs, pods of dolphins surfing leisurely in the surf and of course the odd “Joe Blake” slither by flicking it tongue out as if to wave as passing by. But towards the end of a week of this beauty the kids were hanging around and being generally annoying - so out came the scavenger hunt and off they went for hours trying to find all the goodies on the list.

Thanks now to Poke’mon Go people are forced to go out and literally bump into one another and physically meet and interact - isn’t this novel Idea get up get moving and start living.
